Cultural diversity in Dutch classrooms: social interaction and learning, Prof. Dr. Ed Elbers, Utrecht University
Summary: In the four big cities of the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag and Utrecht) primary schools have a population of, on average, fifty percent or more of pupils from migrant families. In this presentation I will give examples from our research on learning and social interaction in culturally diverse classrooms. In particular, I will concentrate on collaboration between native Dutch and migrant children who work together on school tasks. I will present outcomes both from preschool classrooms and from the higher grades of primary school.
